27 October 1914 - 12 October 1915

In 1914, Fanny Rosina is 39, living with her parents Henry Atyeo (aged 64) & Mary Ann (Ma, aged 62), in Charlton Ville, Wards Belt, South Australia. Her parents have been married for 38 years, both living in Gawler River at the time of their marriage. They live at Lot 871 Woods Road, Wards Belt. According to Google Maps, the house was at the back of the property, far from Woods Road, there is a number 879 on the gate. Also at home are Albert Joseph (Bert, aged 29) & Wilfred George (Wilfie, aged 21), and Fanny's sister Amy Florence (aged 27)  and her daughter Olive Fanny Heath Hobart (almost 1) while her husband George Edmund Hobart (G.E.H.) is in Western Australia I think - he has disappeared sometime between the last volume and now . Fanny Rosina Atyeo (1875-1966) was a dutiful daughter, hard-working sister, and beloved Aunt to many. She kept a daily diary from (at least) 1907 until her death. Her niece, Olive Fanny Heath Sims (nee Hobart), kept those diaries in a box, and now Olive's eldest son, his wife, and their daughter are gradually putting them online. They provide a fascinating snapshot of life at Gawler River, South Australia, and surrounds from 1907 until 1952. To find the information you need, there are three indices: 1. Year of writing, 2. January 1917 to February 1918

Fan’s Diary 1917 Fanny is 41, and living with her father (Dad, Henry Atyeo , aged 68), her mother (Ma, Mary Ann Heath , aged 64) and her brother Bert ( Albert Joseph Atyeo , aged 31). Her sister Amy Florence Hobart (nee Atyeo) , aged 28) and Olive Fanny Heath Hobart (Amy’s daughter, a toddler) also live there while Amy’s husband George Edmund Hobart is away at World War I.  Major events: The dairy burns down, George returns from the war January 1st I cannot report correctly as four weeks in the new year have passed & I have never written a line the year opens with much sadness everywhere as I result of the cruel war, but in our home our dear Mother is lying very ill indeed & we can only hope & pray for her recovery, our usual duties over and that includes sick dishes & all farm work too & Amy & I are very tired & weary Celia 1 & Cousin Eva 2 came out & spent the afternoon I prepared soup & borax & soaked in clothes Auntie E...
